Picnik is a wonderful site for procrastinators. I have report cards looming, my final projects (yes, plural) for my masters program due on Tuesday. My first successful crocheted gift! Oh I've crocheted gifts before, but only gifts a mother could love, usually deformed an lopsided. This one is pretty cute! I used the sock monkey baby beanie pattern from Stitch and Bitch Crochet, the Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller.

Thanks to Rebecca Danger at Danger Crafts for this free pattern! This was my first attempt at knitting in the round using double pointed needles. I keep trying to make another one, but I can't remember how I did it! So frustrating...oh well, hopefully this is the first of many monster chunks, I plan to make them into x-mas ornaments. Now the question...to add legs, or not to add legs.

It's been a busy weekend. Wine tasting, bike riding, corn rocket tattoos... Well, just one. Ryan has been getting free food from Casa Sanchez for months, I go with him all the time so he convinced me I needed the tattoo too. I dunno, I just think it's funny, and pretty cute. We had such a fun time riding there (we earned the calories!), so maybe we'll take the trip every weekend.
BTW, it hurt like hell, I kept flinching which annoyed the heck out of the artist, we had to give him a good tip.

Wine Tasting, Take 100

It never gets old. The more we learn about wine, the more fun we have. Today was a gorgeous day in wine country, only an hour or so from the dense city fog. We stopped by one of our new favs, Vincent Arroyo. We went to Beringer, which is kind of touristy, but always impresses. We were disappointed by BV, and we walked out of Mondavi before we tasted a thing. $20 for a tasting of 4 wines! Crazy! We tried 8 wines at VA for free! We also stopped by the Oxbow Market where we tried raw oysters for the fist time. They were not gross, but I don't see what all the fuss is about, they were salty like the sea. Next, we hit up the wine merchant for another flight and some cheese (the oysters were less than satisfying), and last but not least, some Kara's cupcakes (or Kara's Crackcakes) which were DELICIOUS as ususal.
Then we headed home...
As soon as we came to the GG bridge entrance, the fog rolled in like thick smoke. Luckily, we had a beautiful sunny day behind us. I'm ready for a nap.

(Notice Ryan's cooler bag, he refused to leave our purchases in the hot car, he brought them everywhere we went today.) I also noticed I spelled "tongues" wrong, but I'm too lazy to fix it, you get the idea.

I wonder what pandas think about panda hats? This is what happens when I wake up at 4:30 am and procrastinate. I have tons of work to do, but this is what I came up with instead. I think I'll make an embroidery transfer out of it and put it on a t-shirt.

Just a sneak peak at my late birthday gift to Ryan. Our little doggies! This is my first attempt to embroider without a transfer. I printed the picture, traced it with transfer pen. I ironed it onto a piece of scrap fabric and then ironed it onto this piece so it would not be reversed. I'm starting with an outline, we'll see if I get more ambitious and start filling in more detail. I better get a move on, it's time to start working on x-mas gifts!

It is always freeeeezing at the ballpark. During this heat wave, it was 80 degrees at 11pm, and it was so awesome. The only downside was the kamikaze flying crickets that kept dive bombing us. I'm not used to bugs, mice sure, but not bugs. I guess they were't used to this weather either....
I had to have the "deodorant talk" with my class. 5th graders have no idea how bad they smell...I'm, going to enjoy the heat while it's here, because the fog will be back before I know it.

I don't think I ever posted a finished version of this pillow. This was my most ambitious project, took me quite awhile. Unfortunately our puppy loves to chew pillows, so this one is displayed on a shelf in our living room. I used a combination of transfers from Embroidered Effects and Day of the Dead, all from Sublime Stitching.

I had no idea, but I am very excited that my blog is listed on Sublime Stitching. I feel like I should post some more embroidery since I only use their transfers. Here are some tasty treats in their honor. I discovered a Sublime Stitching transfer pad one day while lurking the craft store. I love to make things but sewing takes sew (he he) much time. I discovered that embroidery is a fun craft to do in a short amount of time. I have been stitching gifts and fun stuff ever since. Thanks Jenny Hart!

San Francisco isn't exactly a lush wilderness setting, but Pine Lake Dog Park is one of the greatest natural spaces in the city. Surrounded by towering Eucalyptus trees and the sound of ducks, we forget about the hustle and bustle, and watch our dogs go nuts.

Yay Valentine's Day

I was very lazy this Valentine's day, I didn't make anything. We still had a great dinner, steak and potatoes, and I bought one of those Mrs. Fields cookie cards that I've always wanted to try. Unfortunately, hubby and I demolished it before I took a picture. Our little doggies were really hoping to get a bite of our dinner.

Knitting is Fun!

So I wanted to try a new stitch, I think this is called the "stockinette" stitch. It is smooth on one side and bumpy on the other. They were super easy to make because I just knit one big piece and folded it in half. The ribbed details were a mistake, so I just re-created them in the second one. And I just had to post this picture of my dog.

Christmas really wiped me out! I haven't made anything for a while, but now the embroidery callouses are gone, I'm getting the crafty itch again. I decided to revitalize my crafty space and teach myself how to knit. After a few awful rows and dropped stitches, I was well on my way to a fabulous Giants scarf to wear come baseball season. I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I do like the ball park, and I can't go without my orange and black!

A Great Year

I am so excited to give all my gifts! This was definitely the most labor intensive year, gift-wise. I am definitely a much faster stitcher now, and I think I've watched every episode of every show on Hulu, but I'm finally done! I need to make my cookies and then it's off to the in-laws for some x-as eve fun! This is another Day of the Dead piece I made for Ryan, and the finished pillow.

X-Mas Gifts

I have been so busy lately, but I finally managed to get some time to embroider. I attended the Bazaar Bizarre yesterday and was inspired! This is a dish towel I embroidered using the latest Sublime Stitching Christmas pattern. I found that it wraps around a wine bottle perfectly so that's how I intend to wrap the wine I'm giving this year!

Halloween!

My costume went over well. It was unfortunate that parent teacher conferences coincided with Halloween, not everyone knows who Ms. Frizzle is. I think some parents just thought I was nuts in my crazy dress.
The kids loved it, sometimes 5th graders are too cool for school, but they called me Ms. Frizzle all day and kept asking when we were going to the moon. (Ms. Frizzle takes the kids on a magic school bus and her dress is always related to their trips). I'm already thinking about next year, any suggestions?

I was too lazy to sew in a collar, so I made a scoop neck dress, and put a collared shirt underneath! Halloween is fun when you're a teacher! It's also challenging to find a costume that is not totally inappropriate, so I have to be creative. Last year, it was Pippy Longstocking.

I am taking the day off in hopes that my voice will recover. It's been great, I still don't feel 100% but I feel good enough to embroider, and catch up with the week's TV shows on Hulu. I finished my dish towel, it's one of those projects that only a mother could love. The glasses turned out nicely, but my attempt at blanket stitch, and the messed up transfer make for an un-giftable creation.

I finally cracked open my new book. I messed up the transfer, so I'm being adventurous with my stitches and keeping this for myself. Let me know what you think. It was kind of a whim, but I think the french knot "bubbles" are so cute. What do you think?
I will definitely finish this today or tomorrow. I ended up taking a sub day tomorrow because I lost my voice, can't teach if I can't talk! The kids were great today, but the novelty of a mute teacher was wearing off. I can't talk, but I can stitch!
